Last WebGUI update created problems with Shortcuts to other WebObjects

Description (last modified by kmaclean) (diff)

Upgrade to WebGUI 7.2.1 causing problems with WebObject? Shortcut Overrides in Acoustic Model Tutorial and Howto.

Users think they are in the Windows portion of tutorial, but since the link overrides no longer work, they are linked to the original link rather than the overridden link - i.e. you think you are in the Windows Tutorial, you click a link, and find yourself in the Linux portion of the tutorial.

Some Shortcut destination objects seem to have their links reversed (with Shotcut ovreride link) after updating the shortcut (to fix the shortcut link override) ... this is way too confusing!

Example: The Acoustic Model Creation page has a tutorial and a Howto.

In the Linux section, two WebGUI 'Articles' (WebObjects? on a Page Layout Object) were created with links to the correct pages layout objects. In the Windows section, pasted Shortcuts to the WebObjects? with link overrides to point to the Windows page layout objects. After the upgrade to WebGUI 7.2.1 the link ovrerides to the Windows Howto and tutorial started pointing to the LInux Howto and Tutorial - the link overrides in the shortcuts were not working.

In trying to fix this problem, I opened the shortcuts and resaved them, and the links seem to be working OK. However, the orginal Linux Articles then started pointing the the Windows Page Layouts. Resaved the Linux Articles and everything seems to be working OK.

When in Admin mode in WebGUI, the links all seem to work OK - it is only when not in edit mode that the links do not work properly

may be related to:

  1. browser cache
  2. WebGUI cache
  3. WebGUi version management

steps to fix:

  1. open Shortcut webobject with url link overrides (to some referenced object ... an article webobject in this case), and re-save;
  2. re-save referenced object;
  3. clear WebGUI cache in Admin mode;
  4. test links

Could not fix shortcut with url overrides problem - deleted original shortcuts and articles they pointed to.

Created new WebGUI articles in Linux and Windows to point to Tutorial and How-to.

There must either be a problem with shortcut with URL link overrides, or there was a specific problem with the orginal articles and shortcuts.

Shortcuts (with URL overrides) working in other sections of the VoxForge? website - need to monitor these during WebGUI upgrades!
